About the Author
Katie Sherrod is a laywoman in the Diocese of Fort Worth. She is an independent writer, video producer and commentator. She wrote and produced Women of the Table, a 20-minute documentary about ministries of both lay and ordained women in the Episcopal Church which premiered at the 2003 General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Minneapolis. She was given the Magadalen Award of the Episcopal Women’s Caucus at General Convention 2006. She has won several awards in newspaper, radio and TV including the Dallas Press Club Award for her 2001 PBS documentary Freedman’s Cemetery Memorial: A Place of Healing, narrated by Alfre Woodard; and the Exceptional Media Merit Award from the National Women's Political Caucus. She was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame in 1987 for outstanding contributions in the field of communications, and named Texas Woman of the Year in 1989. She is married to the Rev. Gayland Pool, an Episcopal priest.

This is an outstsnding piece of literature! Thought-provoking, stirring, haunting, uplifting, spiritual...as well as beautifully written. I was/am so entranced with this work that I will read it repeatedly and be moved by new nuances in each story. This, to me, and all I have read or sent it to is a classic. Sincere thanks to the author, and publisher for bringing this to the masses.

Old school D&D feel, quick play, love it

For some reason, Amazon never got this book in stock so I ended up buying it directly from the publisher, though it took almost 3 weeks to get it.
In a nutshell, the system is very old school in play and feel. A few points below about the game.

Character generation is 3d6 dice down the stats (strength, agility, stamina, etc.), down the column no adjustments.
Character classes/races are old school, either a fighter, wizard, elf, cleric, dwarf, etc., i.e. a elf is a hybrid wizard/warrior, while the dwarf is a focused fighter.
The character funnel system is quite interesting and works excellent in application.

Spells are Vancian system, but very old school, the system follows the original author design much closer than TSR did with their version of Vancian. DCC Vancian versions includes potential for excellent results, no results, forgetting spells, and misfire (love it), and corruption. All spells have rather extensive tables for results.

Magic items are special and rare, and so rather rules light.

Monsters have some tables for generation, but the listing is rather light, good for starters. Maybe down the road they will add additional monster books.

I DM primarily, and I have to say that overall I have loved running Goodman Games DCC system. Once you get the rules down, it runs quick. It is designed to be grim and gritty, and character deaths come fast and quick, so players will have to get used to the old day of TSR's chainmail-2nd edition where character died much more often and were not raiseable until 8th level (unlike 3.0/3.5).

Nice game with a very old school aesthetic, very different to most modern games. I remain deeply suspicious of D7s, but overall an interesting design and I look forward to hopefully making large numbers of PCs go splat at some point with it.

I miss Erlender

In Indridason's previous book, Outrage, the focus was on Elinborg and it was good to get to know more about her, BUT we were left wondering if Erlender would return. In this novel, the focus is on Sigurdur Oli whose marriage is falling apart and his personal life is in a bit of turmoil. We get a bit more perspective on this man who is known for his detachment. Elinborg is only mentioned a few times and Erlender is still on some quest and everyone seems quite worried about him. The novel itself is excellent-- I expect nothing less from Indridason. The Kindle price is back down to $9.99-- good news after the sticker shock of $17.99 (Canadian prices)for Outrage. I do hope the next book resolves this business regarding Erlender. Indridason has taken both Elinborg and Sigurdur Oli for a test run. If the mantle is passed, so be it, but don't leave us hanging.

Only a mother could love this detective

The thing I found intriguing about this book was the somewhat repellant personality of the detective.

Sigurdur Oli is offensive and intimidating in interrogations. His politics are unattractive. His long-term girlfriend has just left him for being so cold and uncaring. He scarcely reads a book a year, prefers watching American football and baseball on TV. He looks down on "lowlife criminals" and takes a certain pleasure in haranguing them. And he's a wine snob, just like his awful mother.

And yet I followed his doings with great interest, because on the job Sigurdur Oli shows total integrity and dedication. Besides, he encounters some gross injustices in this book that teach him a measure of compassion.

So character development is a strong point in Black Skies, but so is the involving quality of the crime writing. One murder victim is an attractive woman who's into swinging and blackmailing. Another is a disgusting old pedophile. Then there's the suspicious death of a banker who dies on holiday on a glacier. Victims and murderers come from all classes of Icelandic society.

The plotting is masterful and complex. Child pornography is a theme. But so is the irresponsible behavior of banks and greedy individuals. Sigurdur Oli's unrelenting attention to all these goings-on is the one unifying factor. One case involves some friends of Sigurdur Oli's, and it's fun watching the self-righteous cop cope with a conflict of interest.

If you're a fan of Indridason like me, you may be wondering why this book is about Sigurdur Oli and not Inspector Erlandur. Well, Erlandur is still off somewhere in the East Fjords all by himself, and his daughter and colleagues are worried about him. But as Black Skies demonstrates, crime goes on, and an Icelandic crime novel can be superlative even without Erlandur.

Not as compelling as his other novels but still a good read. A lot of characters with difficult names make this story a bit hard to follow plus the periodic jump back in time can be confusing. All in all it's worthwhile reading even without Erlander around.

Excellent information and interesting read

This book provided excellent information in an interesting manner which keeps it fresh throughout. It was a great introduction to Lean Maintenance principles with good up to date detail about RCM, PM, PdM, 5S, and 6sigma. The book thoroughly covered the basics of all these topics. I positively recommend this book for maintenance professionals and those interested in Lean concepts.

An outstanding book

I really liked this book and looked forward to reading it every chance I got. It never put me to sleep, like similar related books on the subject have. I found it to be a great introduction to Lean Maintenance while also covering aspects related to RCM, PM, PdM, 5S, and 6sigma. It thouroughly covers the basics of all these topics in relation to Lean. I would recommend this book to be read by all maintenance professionals and people interested in Lean concepts. I will look forward to reading other books books by Levitt and the Industrial Press to see it they meet the standard that this one has set.

Great Experience!

This was such an easy transaction! My daughter needed this book for college in January and this rental was the best price I could find. The book came quickly, was in wonderful condition and all the expectations and instructions were clearly explained. She used the book this past semester, and then Amazon even sent me a reminder that its return date was coming up. I had saved the original box so I just printed the label, followed the instructions and dropped the book in a mail box. I was able to track it from the label, saw when it was accepted back, and within just a matter of days, I received confirmation that the rental was closed! So easy and effortless! I highly recommend using this service!!!!!!!

Great for dancers and therapists

This book is a great resource for dancers and physical therapists alike. The concepts are presented in a clear and concise manner and the chapters include useful exercises to help make the material stick. The book also includes exercises and health plans for common dance and athletic ailments which is useful for readers! This is a textbook that is valuable for taking care of yourself, learning about kinesiology in general and as it relates specifically to the dancer, and supplements your research and papers as a source. This is a textbook to keep well after your course and would be an excellent teaching tool.

I needed this for school for one of my classes and I just really enjoy reading all of the information that this book gives. It you're interested and learning more about a dancers body I recommend this book!

From start to finish

I'm not really a reviewer, but I've got to say that I LOVED these books. I bought Fame, then realized that there was a whole story before that, so I stopped and started with Stalk Me. That was about a week ago. I just finished Get Me and I have to say that I could not stop reading until i was done (even buying the audible so that I could listen in the car!! lol). It's a great story from a great voice and I can not wait to read the next instalments!!

Thanks for a great series

Maybe the most interesting conversation in this book takes place off page, during someone else's POV. I would have liked to see how that played out. It would have been a challenge to write it, but not impossible, and I think we deserved it. Summarizing it in a glib sentence, afterward, seems as if we've lost Keatyn to her own dramatic love, loss and explosions plot. I also prefer a single POV, since we have had it from the beginning, but Keatyn does not tell her own conclusion. Finally, as we have been forewarned, not everyone has an HEA. I'm not sure why not? It's an interesting editorial decision.
I am delighted for the author that she has achieved so much success with this series, and had so much support and appreciation for her work. It was hard earned, with many author events and lots of online non-writing time. It was nice of her to dedicate the book to us, the readers, many of whom have tried to give back in a small way to encourage her in her creative process. I am so impressed with her readers, myself. They are a clever, dedicated group!

Love, Love, Love, Love this book can't believe it is over!

I can't say enough how much Jillian nailed this series. I have never felt so connect to characters before. I felt like when I read that last page I was losing so many people close and dear to my heart. Jillian made these characters come alive and seem so real throughout this entire series that I couldn't stop reading. I knew this would be the last installment and I tried to read it slow but there was no way I could put it down after I started. The way she ties up every loose end makes this series come full circle and I couldn't be happier with the ending. Jillian definitely got some happy and sad tears out of me on this one, 5 out of 5 stars. Really wish there were more books can't believe its over
