This book is definitely helpful for someone who has already explored the possibility of investing in different types of properties. The chapters are well outlined and cover all aspects of the investing process, from the role of the realtor to dealing with fixer-uppers to dealing with taxes and tenants. The case-studies throughout the book also put a real-life spin on many of the more complicated concepts.

The whole process of investing is shown in a positive manner throughout this book, however, it didn't give off a "get rich quick" vibe -there are no magic secrets revealed here. If you're someone who has already done some research and are ready for a book to help you through the investment property, this is definitely a good resource as you can jump back and forth and touch up on subjects you might need some extra guidance on. I'd also recommend this book for someone who is interested in the possibility of investing but who has at least some knowledge of the real estate world. I wouldn't recommend this book who has no idea about real estate.

E.E. Mazier starts "The Complete Guide to Investing in Duplexes, Triplexes, Fourplexes and Mobile Homes" by addressing the recent downturn in the housing market. Mazier's contention is that investments in multi-unit properties like mobile homes and duplexes are profitable in the long term regardless of economic conditions. This thesis may seem like a bold contention given the housing market's collapse since 2007 but Mazier backs up this bravado with great tips on real estate investments.

"The Complete Guide" is broken into three easy-to-read parts that cover the basics of real estate investing, the mechanics of financing and how to handle investments after purchase. Mazier covers well-worn territory including asset protection, property expenses and the need for a reliable real estate agent in the first section. The meat of "The Complete Guide" comes with Parts II and III as Mazier uses her experience in real estate to uncover overlooked areas of investment.

Mazier explores the upside of investing in fixer-uppers in Chapter Nine including the importance of finding distressed owners instead of damaged homes. Chapter 11 disabuses readers of negative perceptions about mobile homes by citing improvement in mobile home communities and unit construction. It addresses each concern with factual information that's relevant, explained in simple terms, and walks the reader step-by-step through understanding the pros and cons of what they're embarking on.

The unique approach adds a quality and depth to the subject as well. Looking at real estate investing as a business instead of a hobby, or something to "do on the side," raises the bar. The book not only addresses how to evaluate properties, but it also takes a look at how to protect your personal assets through various incorporations. While each transaction is different, the education and information provided in this book gives the reader a valuable sense of comfort and understanding that opens the door for taking action. And it's the action that creates the results.

If there is a pitfall, it is that some of the information is geared more for an east coast audience than a west coast audience in terms of whether an attorney or an escrow officer will handle the transaction between the offer and the closing. However, this is minor and handled quite well with advice and perspective that is relevant for both audiences. This is one book I'll keep in my library, referring back to it and sharing it with friends who're venturing into real estate investing.

Principle of Nutritional Assessment - How useful it is.

Ideal methods of nutritional assessment are sensitive and specific. Unfortunately, it is difficult to achieve both in the assessment of nutritional status. Sensitivity refers to the ability of a technique to correctly identify those affected by a condition (for example, under-nutrition) as having that condition. Specificity refers to the ability of a technique to correctly classify normal individuals as having normal nutritional status. Body mass index is a global measure of nutritional status that illustrates the difference between these two constructs. Most persons who consume insufficient energy have low body mass index, so the measure is sensitive. However, there are other causes of low body mass index, including genetics and disease, so body mass index is not specific to nutritional status. The above are what I wanted to understand before I made the purchase and fortunately this book clearly in the most simple terms gave good insight into these issues thereby assisting me to have a good stepping stone to proffering solutions to diverse nutritional assessment problems.

Great but costly for 1990 publication

Green Hardcover (1990 publication):
A fantastic book; both technical and well referenced. I acquired this book years ago from during my graduate studies, and came to Amazon looking for an updated version. Found the green hardcover (1990) and the orange hardcover (2005) published versions. The 1990 version makes it difficult for me to suggest it is stil worth the price at ~$125. Get it used...and save a hundred dollars. The 2005 revision is less money; may entertain the purchase to compare.

I really wanted to like this book because really, who doesn't love a cute twink and a big tough guy? I wish I could give this even a "it's okay" 3 star rating but the book completely lost my interest before I was even half way through it.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book where the author sets up the two main characters. I was excited to see how Zach would wear down Bull's defenses and how Bull would slowly but surely open up to Zach.

Unfortunately all that felt like it happened between turning from one page to another. One second Bull was aggressively against a relationship and the next it was like he was suddenly in love. And yeah, that rushed relationship I could have dealt with because hey, in mm fiction, that's pretty much all of it.

But mix that with Bull being a "mercenary" in his past (which was felt completely out of the blue and way too forced, I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm interested in that type of plot twist but this just didn't click) and Zach's crazy abusive cult family (this threw me, I mean, one second he's describing how his family may have been murdered and the next he's fine to go to dinner? Really? I don't care how crazy "powerful" my uncle is, I'd at least make an effort to find out what happened).

The icing on the cake was when some super spy/merc called Spook showed up and forced Bull to take on a job he didn't want, which involved kidnapping the love interest and so on and so forth. It was like there were two stories fighting for top place within the same book. It made everything seem to forced.

I was really disappointed, cause the beginning was really fun and I enjoyed the writing until the story turned too crazy and boring for me.

It's more than a Must Read, it’s a Must Reread.

There was so much to this wonderfully written story that drew me in, kept me, and made me melt!

Inside Out is the story of Bull—huge, ex-merc turned club owner and bouncer—and Zack—graphic artist and adorably ticklish, shy twink. And no, there is nothing stereotypical about their love. When Zack’s taking out for his birthday he meets Bull, the sexy bouncer that rescues him not once, but twice, not only igniting his libido, but his creativity as well. Before long Zack is back, asking for an interview of sorts, as he’s turned Bull into a comic character.

I loved watching these two wounded souls dance closer and closer together all the while wrestling with demons from the past, one that endangers not only their chances at a HEA, but their very lives. The characters were perfectly written, engaging, and so sweet to read along with that I didn’t want to put the book down when done (yes, I’ve already reread it once, lol). The world they inhabit is real, as in the places and some of the situations, and the pains each man has had to endure are, sadly, all too real. From loss of loved ones to Bull’s vile mother appearing on Bull’s doorstep during their first real date—which Zach handled beautifully!—this is one story that is more than a Must Read, it’s a Must Reread. Oh, and the cover. . . Yeah, Jackman is the perfect Bull! *swoon*

I really, really enjoyed this story. There's something about a big, gruff bear of a man becoming enamoured of a young, irreverent and giggly twink that really gives you the 'aaah' factor.

Bull Krebbs is big, tough and scary, and thought he'd seen everything life could throw at him. Until one night he pulls a random search outside the nightclub he works as a security man and runs into giggly, ticklish Zach Spencer, totally cute, unfazed by Bull's outside 'mean man' exterior and a man who sees beneath the gruff exterior to the sensitive man beneath.

Zack develops a serious case of hero worship for Bull and uses him as the inspiration for a new graphic novel he's creating. Bull is smitten with the young man, against his better instincts, and the scene is set for the relationship between two very different men to develop.

Zach has an unfortunate habit of attracting trouble wherever he goes and Bull has his work cut out for him keeping Zach safe. He's also breaching Bull's defenses very quickly and when Zach approaches him on the premise of working with him as 'research' for his graphic novel, Bull is quick to accept the invitation. Zach has a core of steel and has faced a lot of intolerance for who and what he is, and he won't let anyone take away his confidence in being him.

Beautifully written with tender moments that make your heart go pitter patter, and some very memorable family members like Bull's mother, this story takes the reader on a journey of romantic ideals turning into something concrete and real, and in the process, causing both men to believe in the other and able to give and take so that they can be together.

I love Bull's tenderness and the way he treats Zach as if he's something precious. I love the way he tells Zach, "Sweetheart, I knew you were someone special the first night I frisked you, and you giggled and wriggled right there on the sidewalk."

Zach's bravery after what he's been subjected to by his family, specifically his uncle, is inspiring and beautiful and his self-proclaimed nerdiness and inner strength makes him a completely adorable character. The patience and growing affection that these two men show for each other is perfectly paced, with tender and emotional scenes interspersed with hot, lust-driven escapades as both men get to know each other better.

This is a definite must read for anyone that wants to simply be pulled along for a ride that makes them smile and give a goofy grin every few pages.

Strength on the inside is just as important as strength on the outside.

Bull Krebbs, part-owner and head of security at the local nightclub, hasn't been in a serious relationship in a long time. After rescuing Zach Spencer from being trampled, they begin to spend time together. Now they have to work through Bull's interesting work history along with family drama to determine if they can get their happy ending.

Bull had the perfect personality for head of security and former mercenary. However, the rough exterior was just covering the protective sweetheart that he really was. Zach was adorable, but at the same time, he had an inner strength that has carried him through a challenging life. I really enjoyed watching these two slowly get to know each other. Bull was such a romantic guy with Zach, and they had some really nice dates. The comic book angle was cute with Zach featuring Bull as the superhero in his first book.

When Bull's past comes back to haunt him, it got a tad unbelievable. The excessive use of the word "growl" also got to be a bit much. Zach's uncle and Bull's mom gave us an idea of what these two dealt with growing up, and it wasn't pleasant for either of them. It was lovely that they were both able to see the beautiful souls beneath each other's exterior shells.

This was a very enjoyable story about two people who fit together nicely, and it easily kept me turning the pages.

Pop Culture Breakdown

The Good: Xander makes you care about Dawn. That's what we remaining skeptical fans have needed since the moment Dawn appeared in the series. A reason to care about her. She's grown up some, but she's still, at heart, the annoying little sister we all wish had never been introduced. Her relationship with Xander is the only thing that makes her likable, but at least we have that now. Xander is still full of his flaws, the one character that never evolves past his episode, always reverting back to default mode come the next. This graphic novel stays true to that, as annoying as it may be. We see him once again contemplating questionable things based on emotion over logic.

The Bad: The artwork is getting laughable. I mean, look at that cover. Clearly Buffy. Clearly Xander in black and white at the bottom. Obviously the artists have a grasp on what the characters are supposed to look like. Then on the inside we get rushed cartoony nonsense that barely resemble the characters. I couldn't identify Buffy in more than a few panels. Xander is slightly better, but the eye patch is a pretty big tip off.

I’ve been waiting forever and a day for this volume to show up at the library. I’ve read the rest of Season 9, so this one fills in the gap of what’s going on with Dawn. I still hate Xander, no surprise there. Love Buffy and the motley crew she’s collected, but I miss Spike so much. *sigh* But Illyria and Eldre Koh are here. Yay! The artwork is decent except for Andrew. He looks zero like he’s supposed to. I can’t even tell it’s him until someone calls him by name or he says something geeky. That Siphon is a piece of work and Simone is a real c**t nugget. All-in-all, I love this instalment of the Buffyverse.

Former Marine Elizabeth Moon is the author of many novels, including Victory Conditions, Command Decision, Engaging the Enemy, Marque and Reprisal, Trading in Danger, the Nebula Award winner The Speed of Dark, and Remnant Population, a Hugo Award finalist. After earning a degree in history from Rice University, Moon went on to obtain a degree in biology from the University of Texas, Austin. She lives in Florence, Texas.

Addictive read

I've loved other Elizabeth Moon series and this, as well as the other two of the series, are very good reads. The title put me off at first but has nothing to do with sheep farming. The main character, Paksennarion, goes off with a mercenary group. The story moves well, maintaining interest all the way through while creating a medieval fantasy world. Moon has the mechanics of writing down much better than many in the fantasy and sci-fi genres (she also writes sci-fi) so reading flows well. Paks is an engaging character. Very good fantasy series.

Engaging military fantasy.

I'd seen this book highly recommended several places and finally got around to picking it up. I loved it! There were several places throughout the book where I just couldn't put it down. I just had to see what happened next. Rather than have this high tension environment throughout the book, Ms. Moon has interspersed scenes that are more relaxed and contemplative, which makes for a very well rounded read.
I absolutely loved the prolog. Those first two pages set the tone for the entire book. I'm halfway through the second book, DIVIDED ALLEGIANCE, as I write this and I can say that it continues in this tone of storytelling. The best thing about this book is Paks, the main character. In the first page of the first chapter, I was immediately sympathizing with her. She wants action and adventure, not to marry some pig farmer's son. She wants it so bad that she will defy her father's wishes and run away from her family and everything she's ever known. I was hooked right away. Throughout the book, we experience with her all the joys of military life: recruitment, training, marching, her first battle. These are all done vividly and realistically, making the reader feel as if they are actually there. Paks' feelings and thoughts become ours.
Not only is Ms. Moon's characterization brilliant, but her story is engaging, too. I get the impression that most of this book was just set up material for the rest of the series. There were numerous small things that were hinted at in this book that I'm sure will turn out to have great impact later on. On its own, this book is a brilliant military fantasy. The villain they end up chasing around the country, though not actually shown until the very end, is expertly developed. The things he does to prisoners, his tactics, and the way he treats his subjects all combine to make for a nasty villain.
I really enjoyed this book. If you like fantasy, but are looking for something different than the usual fare, this will definitely satisfy you. Brilliantly developed and engaging characters, great narration, and an exciting story all add up to take the reader on a thorougly rousing ride.

The start of one of the best fantasy series of all time

I don't care for many of Moon's later works, but it is obvious she poured her heart and soul into her first fantasy trilogy known as The Deed of Paksenarrion.
This book (along with the two that follow in the trilogy) were so good that I had a hard time reading any other books for a while afterwards. I had a hard time finding another book that lived up to the high standard this one set.

Moon has been compared to Tolkien (what decent fantasy writer hasn't been?), but she builds her world on the small details instead of the broad strokes of Tolkien. It is those small details that bring Moon's characters and world alive like no other fantasy world I've read about.

Moon is also a master manipulator of emotions. She will have you laughing throughout one chapter and crying throughout the next. Moon has no aversion to dealing with the death of characters you grow to love which makes it all the more real.

That it features a strong and intelligent female lead that doesn't get all goofy over some cliched heroic male is also refreshing.

I just wish Moon would get back to her roots and write more books about this great heroine.

Excellent.

This book is excellent. It contains all the aid I need for the course and even more. All the topics are well explained and contain more than enough practice problems. The book includes a cd with the digital book, which is great if you carry your laptop to school and you dont want to carry more books. The book includes complete chapters for TI procedures which are great if you are new to this type of calculators. This book is perfect for a math studies ib student.

I purchased this book for my daughters, high school math class. Some classes now require you to supply your own book. It came in great condition and the price was pretty reasonable.
