AMAZING FREEDOM FROM DIETS!

This book is amazing! Scoff if you want but you'll only miss out! Breathing has changed my life and the numbers on the scale!
I wake up every morning feeling thinner and thinner and the scale shows it. I have lost 23 pounds at last weigh! I combine the breathing with loving and blessing my food( from E Squared by Pam Grout). I consider blessing and loving my food and my body as my eating plan and breathing as my exercise. I have never had these kind of results from any diet! Thank you so much for your books Pam Grout!!! FREEDOM!

Just breathe!

I put this under the heading of things I wished I'd known three decades ago...i.e. that just breathing correctly could be such a powerful tool in achieving a healthy body. Unfortunately, over the past few years, I had put on quite a bit of weight and was not feeling healthy -- I had very low energy and also had begun to experience some unfounded anxiety. The typical diet and exercise program I had used most of my life to keep fit had become ineffective and I was becoming increasingly frustrated. I had read another of Pam Grout's books on a completely different topic when this book popped up on my Kindle as another book by Ms. Grout that I might be interested in. I read the reviews and read about Alan Finger and his yoga practice that is centered on breathing (and his own experience of fairly miraculous weight loss) and, although skeptical, I thought that it couldn't hurt to try these exercises. For the past three weeks I have incorporated the various breathing exercises into a daily practice. For the first two weeks, I only did the breathing and did not change my diet or exercise. For the past week, I also have incorporated a more alkaline diet. the result is that I have lost an average of half a pound per day, and after incorporating the alkaline diet for the past week, it is just under a pound a day. Better yet, I have found that the anxiety is lessening and that when I do have an occasional bout, that the breathing exercises help me alleviate that and bring me back into the moment. This holiday season was a good example --- I was able to host my large family of twelve and really enjoy it, whereas, in the past, it would have been a cause for great anxiety. Lastly, my energy is beginning to pick up again. The great thing is that I can practice the exercises anywhere, even in my car while driving.

Really works!

I bought this book because I was looking for a way to lose weight without having to do anything else. Before that, I was exercising, lifting weights and I drastically altered my diet to lose only a few pounds and then hit a plateau. Mind you, my diet was pretty bad (fast food, etc...terrible habit). So, I got discouraged, bought some weight loss pills that did absolutely nothing and decided to do a search a different search online. That is when I found Pam's book. Before finishing her book and while not dieting or exercising, I started doing the breathing exercises and I was losing a pound a day. Did you hear me? I stopped exercising and I kept eating fast food and lost a pound a day just by changing the way I breathe. I was ecstatic weighing myself everyday. I didn't expect such dramatic and quick results. That was enough incentive for me to get back into my fitness exercise routine and to start eating healthier. I can't imagine what my results will be in a month :o). Try and focus on your breathing all day. Even after doing the exercises, I became aware of how frequently I seemingly "hold" my breath or breathe shallow and then I just refocus on breathing deep into my abdomen. This is a watershed event in my life. I'm truly amazed!

Christmas porn

It really pains me to say this; but, Santa Baby is short on story line and character development. Jennifer Crusie's novella, "Hot Toy" saved this volume from a one star rating; however, even this piece was not quite up to Crusie's usual rollicking good fun standards. If it were stand alone piece, I would probably have given the novella 3 stars.

Lori Foster and Carly Phillips really disappointed me though and dragged the book down irretrievably. Foster's "Christmas Bonus" lacked everything but sex, of which it had way too much. And Phillips' "Naughty Under the Mistletoe" was so unbelievable that even the sex fell flat.

All in all, I was thoroughly disappointed and saddened that Crusie's name is linked to this book. All three authors are much better writers than what was delivered by this book. Save your money and read some of their other works such as, Faking It by Jennifer Crusie.

I really wanted to love this book, but the truth is, it's just OK.

Jennifer Crusie writes an action/spy novella In Hot Toy. Trudy is sent out on Christmas Eve to purchase the latest Hot Toy for her nephew. Of course the toy isn't in stock as everyone wants one. While going through other shelves hoping for a misplaced toy, she runs into a guy she dated 3 times. She thought he was the one. He never called back. The two get mixed up in spy game when they toy she finds contain secret Chinese codes. I thought her's was the best as it was entertaining and the couple's relationship was beleivable. Plus there are quite a few laughs thrown in. If it was just Jennifer Crusie's story I had to rate I would probably give it a 4.

In Lori Fosters Christmas Bonus you have Maggie who has recently taken over her fathers company upon his death. Eric is the employee everyone thought would take over the company. Eric and Maggie both have loved eachother secretly since they met. Eric stumbles upon some evidence of Maggies feelings and decides to act on it. I thought the plot was good, but the story just didn't live up to all it could have been.

In Carly Phillips Naughty Under the Mistletoe you have Toni, a woman who decides she is going to make the moves on her soon to be ex-boss at the Christmas Party. She ends up kissing his twin instead. I am a Carly Phillips fan and this story just fell flat. The couple fall in love after a one night stand. I just couldn't buy it.

These are 3 quick easy reads. Each has entertaining value, but it might be a book you want to check out at the library or borrow from a friend instead of buy.

Enjoyable seasonal anthology....

A Major MacGuffin is the "Hot Toy" this Christmas in Jennifer Crusie's phenomenal new novella. Trudy Maxwell is determined to find a Major MacGuffin for her nephew, Leroy, this Christmas Eve after her dad forgets to buy him one. After all, Evil Nemesis Brandon has one, toxic waste packets and all. Trudy is determined that Leroy won't suffer the same heartbreak she and her sister suffered every year when Santa's gifts "fell off the sleigh". Unfortunately, Trudy soon finds herself embroiled in the midst of international espionage and she'll have to decide whether to trust Nolan Mitchell who stole her heart and dumped her several months earlier.

Jennifer Crusie is the master at writing a humorous romance! "Hot Toy" will have the reader laughing out loud nonstop as the antics of the characters are hysterical. The interplay between Trudy and Nolan is funny, but Trudy's conversations with her sister, Courtney, steal the show. The visual images described by Ms. Crusie are so uproariously vivid that one can easily see the carnage of the gingerbread men and the gumdrops sliding off of the roof of the gingerbread house! This reviewer can't remember when she has laughed so hard. Thank you, Ms. Crusie, for a story that puts humor into the entire "Hot Toy" chaos.

Lori Foster's "Christmas Bonus" is about an office romance. Maggie Carmichael inherited her father's business when all she really wanted was her father's right hand man, Eric Bragg. Unfortunately, Eric has been distant ever since Maggie became his boss. Will love blossom as a "Christmas Bonus" this year for Maggie and Eric?

Lori Foster excels at writing a steamy romance. "Christmas Bonus" is definitely a "feel-good" sort of story that is perfect for the holidays. The sexual attraction between Maggie and Eric is never in doubt. Most of the development of their relationship was believable but this reviewer was a bit irritated by comments made by Eric later in the book as it tainted the entire romance. If one eliminates those statements by Eric, then "Christmas Bonus" is an enjoyable holiday tale.

Carly Phillips puts a new twist on an old theme in "Naughty Under the Mistletoe". Toni Larson intends to seduce Stephan Corbin but finds herself with his twin, Maxwell. Will their one night of being "Naughty Under the Mistletoe" bloom into so much more or will their own insecurities get in the way?

Carly Phillips manages to pack a lot of emotional depth into such a short story. Both Toni and Maxwell have their own set of insecurities but each opens up to the other over an unusual game of pool. The blossoming of their romance after such a short period of time is surprisingly believable.

SANTA, BABY stands out as a superb anthology based on the strength of the Jennifer Crusie novella. For "Hot Toy" alone, this reviewer strongly recommends this anthology as I laughed until I cried over this story. Lori Foster and Carly Phillips offer two decent seasonal stories but fans of both should be cautioned that these are both reprints. SANTA, BABY proves to be an enjoyable seasonal anthology that should please fans of Ms. Crusie in particular.

Make sure you get the latest edition

A fantastic resource for anyone working with track and field (Athletics) athletes, and really anyone working in sport. The author presents a lot of information here. Now while some of the scientific foundations early on in the book could be better covered by other texts, the latter portions of the book are outstanding. Frank Dick illustrates his points with practical examples of how he has applied principle into practice.
Make sure you get the latest edition - which is vastly updated and relates much of the information to team sports such as football (soccer). Some of the book is still dated, but as I have said in other reviews, this does not mean it should just be written off right there and then. Tried and trusted methods still should carry weight in the modern world of sport science and training theory.

Pure Elemental Bliss: Princes of the Apocalypse

It doesn’t seem that long ago I was pining for Fifth Edition Dungeons and Dragons to finally be released and here I am, less than a year later, staring at the second Super Adventure released for the product line. Fifth Edition is here in earnest, and I’ve seen nothing but quality books coming off their presses. Princes of the Apocalypse (PotA) is no different. Coming in at a bulky 256 pages, PotA provides a full campaign arc that borrowers on a bit of nostalgia by using touches of a D&D classic The Temple of Elemental Evil.

Quality of the Product
There’s not much to be said here that I haven’t mentioned before with this edition’s quality. Wizards of the Coast has brought us a book every bit as sturdy as its predecessors in this edition, great binding, solid hardcover. Nothing new to relay there. Just quality craftmanship.

The artwork is every bit as strong. If the design team set out to evoke the feeling of immersion into the elemental forces your players will be dealing with they certainly succeeded. There’s a great use of artwork here and I am a sucker for anything based on the elements to begin with. Loved seeing scenes from the book brought to life for this.

The Campaign

The campaign arc represents the meat and potatoes of the book. The core story is a Super Adventure meant to take characters from level 3 to 15, with a number of adventures in the “Alurms and Excursions” portion of the book that will help characters get to level 3 if you are starting from scratch. Another nice touch is a series of hooks you can use to bring players over who have finished running Lost Mines of Phandelver.

The Elemental Princes are all wildly interesting antagonists, as are their cults, and the adventure paths your players will take may differ wildly from another tables. I am happily surprised at the openness of this campaign. Tyranny of Dragons had a bit of sandbox to it but PotA does the better job of it. Especially because while the players are meddling there are ways for the cults they face to react to said meddling, as one would expect to be honest. Plus I love that the whole thing is contained in one book. Hopefully we see that more often going forward.

Additional Content
Along with a solid Campaign to run WotC, and their partners for this endeavor Sasquatch Game Studio, have presented a number of new player options as well. Within the pages there are a number of new magical items for the DM to reward players with, or ruin their day with if the items lay within the grasp of their enemies. We are also greeted with a bevy of new spells for the various classes that use them, most spells having a bit of that elemental slant to them you would expect from such a story. Lastly we have a brand new race for players to begin using, the elemental focused Genasi we know and love from previous editions. One of the cooler aspects of this additional player content is that you can find most of it, the Genasi details and the spells, in .pdf form on the WotC website. The magic items are adventure specific though.

In Conclusion
I continue to be a fan of the physical materials Wizards has been putting out. I love that they have been working with different RPG studios to create the content as well. Both Kobold Press and Sasquatch Game Studio have brought unique elements to their work they’ve done with the design team proper for Dungeons and Dragons. I like that trend and hope it continues. If you’re looking for some great DM content or even an entire Campaign arc for your table check this book out, it’s a great read and some solid adventuring!

The end of the world

Four prophets have answered the call of the Elder Elemental Eye, sought four ancient weapons and now build their cults all in an attempt to summon the Princes of the Elemental Evil and end the world.

One of the most famous campaigns in Dungeons & Dragons history, The Temple of Elemental Evil, gets reworked for 5th edition. The Princes of the Apocalypse is designed to take players from level 1-15, pitting them against these four cults, in whgatever order and however they wish to take them on. New dungeons, new monster, and new magical items are yours to fight and battle.

The book introduces new spells for bards, druids, sorcerers, warlocks and wizards as well as the Genasi.

Best of all, the book, while the default setting is the Forgotten Realms, the book has ways to translate it to Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Dragonlance and Eberon settings.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who plays Dungeons and Dragons.

Finally, a fantastic module from WotC!

After playing D&D through first the original iteration and then the Thac0 days of 2nd edition, I went on hiatus and re-entered at 4th edition. Unlike many purists who hated this remake, my gaming group actually liked the miniatures-based, tactical nature of 4th since we were more of a board-game group rather than RPG purists. But I lamented the fact that 4th edition really had no excellent pre-made modules available for it (with the one exception being Madness at Gardmore Abbey) since they were all so linear. The other problem with 4th was that you really needed to subscribe to DDI in order to use their character creator because i could never figure out how they came up with stat bonuses without it. I was looking to convert some of the excellent Pathfinder modules to 4th edition in order to have more plot and story-driven play or even to look into switching to Pathfinder but hated the more complex rules.

Then came along 5th edition. I was very skeptical that 5th rules were going to be better during the 2 years of playtesting but was pleasantly surprised that WotC managed to simplify the ruleset of 3.5 but maintained options to integrate grid battles. 5th edition to me is the best of all iterations so far. I passed on Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat, hoping for a great adventure. Now that I have read through PotA, I can honestly say that this is exactly the kind of adventure world that I am looking for--story and plot driven, enough of a sandbox for players to make a variety of meaningful decisions and have side-quests, unique monsters and spells that fit in the world, and amazing settings and dungeons to explore and do old-fashioned dungeon crawling. I love how it gives enough background on each of the four elemental cults as well as giving interesting background information about the four prophets so that you can role-play well. And because it takes characters from 1-15, it has that epic feel of the heroes moving towards an exciting conclusion.

The only reason why I docked a star is because I have to spend more money than what the book costs in order to download all the maps for this adventure. 4th edition came with a lot of maps (not all for some strange reason) and 5th doesn't since grid battles are optional. But I wish the maps were more around $10 or $15 to download rather than $40+. (Go to Mike Schley's website to purchase.)

WOW!! This book really delivers!

I have to honestly say that I was overwhelmed with all the resources this book provides. The first 10 were amazing and extremely helpful. I was actually reading the book on my iphone kindle while clicking on the websites on my laptop while sitting at Starbucks! Talk about chock-full of information. As a teacher and mother who has succeeded in getting her 12-year-old son to graduate from high school and into college Home School Secrets: Excellent Exposure (The Creation of Intellect) I know the value of resources and information.
